Juan Castro Blanco National Park - Tour #NZJA36
This tour is a great new alternative for bird watching enthusiasts.  The trip to this rarely visited cloud
forest will give you the opportunity to see a wide variety of flora and fauna including the spectacular
Quetzal with its eye-catching plumage and many other bird species.
When many people think of the Costa Rican cloud forest, Monteverde is the first name that comes to
mind.  But those that take this tour will quickly find that Costa Rica has much more to offer than just
Monteverde.  In order to reach the Juan Castro Blanco National Park , located only 1 ½ hours from La
Fortuna, we will drive through the San Carlos lowlands, Costa Rica’s most productive agricultural
region.  The small number of tourists that visit the park, the personalized nature tour and the area’s
beauty makes an excellent combination.  Many of San Carlos lowlands’ most prominent rivers have
their origins in the park as do many of the most  important aquifers in the area.  The total area of the
park which was created by decree in 1992 is 14,250 hectares (approximately 35,600 acres).
The most common species of fauna found in the park are birds such as the Quetzal, Crested Guan,
Black Guan and Chachalaca and mammals such as the Red Brocket Deer, White Faced Capuchin
Monkey, Armadillo, Paca, Tapir and several cat species.  The park has a very diverse array of flora with
approximately 60% of the park’s total area being covered by primary forest and the remainder consisting
of patches of secondary forest.  The tour will end with a delicious lunch with trout as the main course.
Includes: Transportation, entrance fees, lunch, bilingual naturalist guide.
Required Gear:  Comfortable clothing, hiking shoes, rain poncho, sunscreen, insect repellent, camera,
    binoculars.

provide part of the equipment and start a horseback ride of approximately 40 minutes. After, we will give
you the rest of the equipment and take a short walk through the transitional forest where the guide will
comment about things that prevail in the rainforest.  Sometimes, it is possible to see several animal
species, such as white faced and howler monkeys, rodents, snakes, a great diversity of birds as well as
an enormous variety of orchids and canopy plant life. For the canopy, the trees we use are adult trees.
The platforms have an elevation of 150 feet (45 mts.).  All the platforms are designed for observation of
    flora and fauna and no harm is done to them.  You will see trees like Cocora (billia hippocastanum);
Peine de mico (apeiba membranacea), and Capulin (mortoniodendron apetala) just to name a few.
After the hike, we arrive at the first platform where the ride begins. You can’t help but be overwhelmed by
the beauty as you glide through the forest on the seven cables. Our shortest cable is 195 ft (60 mts) and
our longest is 650 ft (203 mts).  All our safety equipment is very simple to use and will be handled by the
guides so you can sit back and enjoy the day.  The construction (rigging) of the tour meets the safety

The seven and a half miles trip on the Sarapiqui River takes place between the community of La Virgen
    and Chilamate in Sarapiqui.
It is a trip especially suitable for beginners and intermediates.  It includes a very safe section formed by
rapids followed by crystalline ponds.  Along the journey you will enjoy four class III and about 20 class II
rapids, all of which have a good technical level.
Our trip starts by picking you up in your hotel as of  9:00 a.m.  During the journey, the guide will provide
information of the different towns we pass by, their lifestyle, the characteristic of the natural environment
and general information about their socioeconomic activities.  Around 10:30 a.m we will arrive to
Tirimbina in La Virgen de Sarapiqui.
The 7.5 miles trip starts after listening to a safety talk given by the tour leader.  The Sarapiqui River is
characterized by its clear almost pollution free water, thanks to the fact that not only few people live
nearby but also its riverbanks are protected.
Throughout the vibrant journey, you will enjoy swimming and refreshing yourself in several peaceful
ponds in addition to the thrill of defying rapids such as “gringo hollow”, “confusion”, “deer”, “roller
coaster”, “air force” among others.  Half way of the journey, we will stop on the river and eat tasty tropical
fruits of the season, prepared and served by our guides.  At the end of the rafting trip, after three fantastic
hours filled with fun, you can get dry and change clothes before enjoying a hot lunch in our facilities on
the river bank.  Finally, around 3:30 p.m. we head back to La Fortuna.
Includes: Transportation, guides, fruits, lunch and equipment.
Departure: 9:00 a.m. from La Fortuna.
Required Gear:   Strap sandals or tennis shoes, extra clothes, towel, swimsuit or clothes to get wet in.

We will pick you up at your hotel and take the pathway to one of the most important agriculture zones in
Costa Rica: the Northern Plains.  We drive for about one hour to the Indigenous reservation set by the
government.  In this reservation we will find three Maleku communities known as El Sol, Margarita and
Tonjibe. We will visit Tonjibe community and meet a local family.  The Maleku tribe of Costa Rica is quite
unique.  They speak their own language and are struggling to hold onto their original traditions and
customs such as their language, dances, diet, dressing and the use of natural medicines. There are
only a few hundred Malekus left on the reservation. Their main-source of income is the sale of their
crafts, like masks, bows, musical instruments, etc.  This cultural encounter involves a visit to one of their
traditional houses, a walk thru their graveyards to know how they used to bury their family members in
the past.  Also, we will visit their botanical garden where they get their medicines from different plants.
We will watch them perform one of their traditional tribal rituals to end with a typical Maleku lunch.
Afterwards, we will take you back to the hotel.

Punta Coral Private Reserve (Full Day)NZCA50
The Endangered Tropical Dry Forest - Sustainable Tourism Property
Punta Coral Private Reserve is located at the most eastern tip of the Peninsula of Nicoya, on the Pacific
side of Costa Rica. It consists of 30 acres of protected Tropical Dry Forest. There are no roads leading
to the property and no electricity.  For the last 24 years it has been privately owned and jealously
protected from development. Punta Coral is surrounded three sides by water, and accessible only by
boat. This gives the property a feeling of being an island. Eight years ago it was opened to the public
with the idea to educate the guests of this delicate ecosystem. There is only 2% of the Tropical Dry
Forest remaining in the world today. Connected to the mainland makes Punta Coral a perfect place to
visit the many animals, over 250 species of mammals and birds, that call the Tropical Dry Forest home
and feed on the many delicious fruit bearing and flowering trees and plants. Privately Owned means
privately funded and this is accomplished with daily tours.

Punta Coral offers you a day on the water with the use of kayaks and snorkel equipment and a totally
private area; a safe beach for swimming, four walking trails and a fabulous seafood lunch with live
music, elegantly served where there is complete protection from the sun.

Some clients are older and it is especially nice for those who want to stay near the ocean but do not
want to partake in the water activities. They watch entertained as the “younger crowd” enjoys the kayaks,
snorkeling and swimming. They stay protected from the sun; sitting around the Mango Bar sipping ice
cold tropical cocktails or at tables playing games, reading books or napping in the many hammocks
under a giant palm thatched covered area close to the water’s edge over looking the ocean and
    surrounded by the protected forest.

Lunch Menu at Punta Coral - Elegantly served in a covered dinning area overlooking the ocean.
Appetizer: Calypso’s famous, prize winning Ceviche.
Salad:  Italian mixed green salad, with fresh tomatoes, cumbers & vinaigrette dressing.
Main Course:  Grilled “Mahi Mahi” Smothered in a mouthwatering cream sauce with sautéed
mushrooms & topped with toasted macadamia nuts, Steamed rice & julienne vegetables, Garlic bread,
    Ice cold white wine.
Dessert:  To Die for" baked chocolate fudge with shredded coconut topped with freshly whipped real
cream, Hot Costa Rican coffee made and served individually at your table.

Includes: Transportation from your local hotel, multilingual guide, Costa Rican typical breakfast,
gourmet lunch served with chilled white wine, soft drinks and fresh fruit, kayaks and snorkeling.
Required Gear: Swimsuit, towel, sunscreen and hat.
